Studio Rehab After an Injection
A joint injection can be an excellent tool in helping to settle pain and inflammation, particularly when symptoms have been limiting movement, sleep, work, or sport. However, it is important to understand that the injection itself is only one part of the recovery journey and is rarely enough on it’s own.
Whilst the medication may help reduce pain and irritation within the joint, it does not automatically restore strength, movement, control, or confidence in using that area again. This is where structured rehabilitation becomes essential.
The period following an injection offers a valuable window of opportunity. As pain reduces, we are able to begin targeted rehabilitation that may previously have been too uncomfortable to tolerate, resulting in more effective outcomes.
I’ve had my injection, what’s next?
After your appointment you will have a follow up with one of our injection specialists who will recommend a pathway of care. Rehabilitation can take shape in the form of studio rehab, strength and conditioning with our in house coach Adam or one to one care with your usual physiotherapist. We’ve put together a blog to help you make the right decision on the right type of rehab for you.

Do I need to rehab?
A common misconception after an injection is assuming that once the pain settles, normal activity can resume immediately. In reality, the muscles surrounding the joint may still be weak, inhibited, or poorly coordinated following a period of pain.
A structured rehabilitation programme helps restore normal movement patterns, improve joint stability, and rebuild strength in a safe and progressive way. This includes a combination of mobility work, strengthening exercises, hands-on therapy where appropriate, and functional rehabilitation relevant to your daily life or sporting demands.
Why your rehabilitation should be tailored
No two injuries and no two people are the same. A tailored rehabilitation programme designed by a physiotherapist ensures that treatment is specific to your diagnosis, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals.
For example, rehabilitation following a shoulder injection for rotator cuff-related pain will look very different from recovery after a knee injection for osteoarthritis. Your physiotherapist will carefully assess joint movement, muscle strength, control, biomechanics, and functional limitations before building a plan that is right for you. This allows progression at the right pace, ensuring tissues are loaded appropriately without provoking unnecessary flare-ups.
How does studio rehab fit into this?
Studio Rehab is a personalised rehabilitation programme delivered as a package of 6 x 30-minute sessions on a 1-1 basis. Specifically designed to create accessible, afforable treatment to ensure everyone can recover post injection despite age and ability. Studio Rehab takes place in our fully equipped rehabilitation studio under the expert eye of our physiotherapists.

Each programme combines manual ‘hands-on’ treatment and guided exercise individually tailored to your stage of recovery and goals for rehab. So whether it is getting back to Parkrun, picking up your grandchildren or your glorious return to the padel court, we have the knowledge and skills to ensure a full and comprehensive recovery. Studio Rehab is hands-on, supportive, and focused on long-term results—not just short-term fixes.
Post injection, patients are often unsure on what to do (or what not to do) or what to expect. The studio creates an environment where patients can feel confident in movement with clear direction towards their goals.
