Studio Rehab for the Knee

After a knee injury, rehab really is the key to getting back on your feet (quite literally!). Your knee is a weight-bearing joint, held together by a network of muscles, tendons and ligaments that all need to pull their weight for everything to work properly. Once an injury happens, it’s common for the surrounding muscles, especially the quadriceps, to weaken. Research shows that getting this strength back is one of the most important parts of rehab.

If this isn’t addressed, lingering weakness can leave the knee more vulnerable to re-injury down the line. The good news is that a well-structured rehab programme helps rebuild strength, mobility and control step by step. Gradually loading the knee in a safe way so you can get back to normal life, sport or work feeling confident in it again.

Studio Rehab After a Knee Injection:

While injections can offer quick relief from pain and inflammation, they imporantly create a window of opportunity for rehabilitation. We always advise an injection is paired with commitment to follow-up rehab.

Rehabilitation is what actually addresses the root causes of your pain and dysfunction. Targeting specific weaknesses and guiding you on the right frequency, intensity, and progression of exercises- read more about why rehab is so important post injection here.

Studio Rehab After Knee Surgery:

After knee surgery, your knee can be left feeling stiff, weak, and a little unpredictable in how it moves. That’s completely normal as it heals. Your physio will take all of this into account, looking closely at the type of surgery you’ve had, where you are in the healing process, and what matters most to you, before building exercises that are both safe and genuinely effective for your stage of recovery. Stiffness is combatted through ‘hands on’ mobilisations within the sessions.

If your consultant has given you a post-op protocol to follow, we’ll use this as our roadmap, helping guide your progression and keep your expectations realistic and on track every step of the way.

What Does Studio Rehab Involve?
Manual Therapy (the hands on stuff!)

Hands-on manual therapy often includes knee mobilisations. During this technique, your physiotherapist gently moves your knee joint through its natural range of motion, easing stiffness and helping the joint glide more freely. This can help reduce pain, ease stiffness, and support your knee’s return to normal, comfortable movement.

Progressive Exercise

Studio rehab involves a physiotherapist guiding you through a tailored, progressive exercise programme designed to rebuild strength, control, and stability around the knee. The foundations your knee needs to cope with the demands of life. This process can take a bit of time, and progress isn’t always a straight line. That said, with commitment, patience, and the right guidance, the vast majority of people go on to make a full recovery and return to the sport they love, performing with confidence rather than hesitation.

Is Studio Rehab for Me?

We know that exercise can feel daunting after an injury. That’s why you won’t leave with a generic sheet of exercises. Our physiotherapists stay with you every step of the way, fine-tuning your programme so it’s always pitched just right: enough to challenge your knee and keep you progressing, but never more than you’re ready for.

Studio rehab is all about getting you back to the long-term things you love. Whether that’s in the garden, hitting personal bests in the gym, or simply walking without a second thought. At your very first session, we’ll sit down and ask about your goals, so come ready to chat! This helps us shape every session around your hobbies, interests, and the things you actually need your knee to do.

We aim to keep your rehab to a gold-standard. We want you to know what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and do it well.

Research tells us that graded exercise is the key to a long term recovery for an abundance of common conditions. As a result we split our exercises into 3 levels, from more basic (level 1) to advanced and sports specific training (level 3).
